Ознаки державності не тільки зберігалися, навіть коли Україна перебувала у складі інших держав, а й розвивалися за властивими українському народу рисами, такими як характерні інститути державної влади та власне законодавство. Процес формування української державності перебував під впливом багатьох факторів, наприклад географічного розташування, релігії, культури, традицій. Це пласт історичного надбання, який є одним із визначальних у формуванні державності, а згодом і власної держави. У статті здійснюється дослідження природи поняття «державність». Despite numerous scientific papers on the concepts of «state» and «statehood», this issue remains relevant, as Ukrainian statehood has a thousand-year history of development, as well as a history of challenges it has faced throughout its existence. Signs of statehood were not only preserved, even when Ukraine was part of other states, but also developed according to the characteristics of the Ukrainian people, such as the characteristic institutions of state power and its own legislation. The process of formation of Ukrainian statehood was influenced by many factors, such as geographical location, religion, culture, traditions. This is a layer of historical heritage, which is one of the determinants in the formation of statehood, and later their own state.
